Seer Sharing Model Step 2: Understand Others

This is Step 2 of the 5-Step Seer Sharing Model, a tool to help understand what it is you’re supposed to share with others when you see things in the spirit realm. The introduction is here. Step 1 is here.

The Problem

People are all over the place with their understanding of the things of God and the spirit realm. Seemingly mature Christians are often baffled at basic spiritual concepts which you routinely see. Some even react extremely negatively when seers reveal what they see.

Similarly, nonbelievers are all over the map regarding how they might handle what you reveal.

Before you reveal what you see for the purpose of bringing more of God’s rule and reign onto the earth, you must assess the mindset of the person you’re trying to help.

There are three areas I think are worth considering.

  1. Fixed or Growth Mindset
  2. Faith in Jesus
  3. Belief in the supernatural

Let’s begin, shall we?

Fixed or Growth Mindset

Generally, people will either have a Fixed Mindset or a Growth Mindset regarding various life aspects.

Those with a Fixed Mindset view their talents and abilities as basically unchangeable. They view their mistakes as evidence of their flaws. They avoid failure and challenges, and are quick to hide errors or blame others. They don’t want to be challenged, they don’t want to be stretched, and they basically assume they have things figured out. When they discover something they haven’t figured it, they are discombobulated or troubled and often feel like they are flawed, and will react against such an idea. Their identity is wrapped up in their limited performance.

Those with a Growth Mindset recognize they are a work in progress and they can enhance their abilities through effort and practice. They see challenges as learning opportunities and failure is chances to adapt and grow. Their identity is not wrapped up in performance.

It’s far easier to minister effectively to a person with a Growth Mindset israthler than a Fixed Mindset.  People need to learn their identity is not wrapped up in sin or lies they’ve been told all their lives or some self-defined situation.

The key to freedom is new life through faith in Jesus and an identity rooted in what God says about them. The best way to move someone from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset is through a supernatural encounter. This can be dramatic or through the gentle leading by the Holy Spirit.

Faith in Jesus

In addition, it’s useful to know if the person you plan on ministering to knows Jesus or not. Among those who do not, part of bringing people into God’s rule and reign will be to introduce them to faith in the Lord Jesus.

But among those who don’t know the Lord, there is a continuum of non-belief. It’s important to help the person move up the continuum towards making a faith declaration in the Lord.

5. Hostile

This is a person hostile to faith in Jesus. (Fixed Mindset)

4. Distorted or Unaware

This person is unaware of the Lord or the need for faith in Jesus, or has a distorted perception regarding spiritual things. Gnostics and pagans often have a distorted view of God, as do some people who think of God only in Old Testament terms. (Fixed Mindset)

3. Open to the Messenger

This person is someone who may also at a level 5 or 6, but is in relationship with you an, based on trust you’ve built up, is at least open to you. (Fixed or Growth Mindset)

2. Open to the Message

This person is open to hearing about the good news Jesus offers. (Growth Mindset)

1. Seekers

These people are actively looking for spiritual solutions to their problems. They are the most open to receiving Jesus as Lord. (Growth Mindset)

There are many ways to move people up the continuum towards receptivity to the good news Jesus offers. Prayer is a good first step.

Another great way to move someone up the scale is through facilitating a powerful supernatural encounter. Again, this might be something dramatic, or the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus often did this as a way to shatter a fixed worldview so he could mold people to begin thinking differently about him and God’s Kingdom.

Paul Learned the Hard Way

The Apostle Paul did as well. When Paul ministered to intellectual Greeks in Athens, he didn’t shatter their mindset. Instead, he ministered to them intellectually, with a masterful defense of the Good News Jesus Christ offers.

But to little avail. Few responded because most of his audience had a Fixed Mindset, and reason alone is generally not enough to propel someone into a Growth Mindset.

Paul left Athens for Corinth, and on the way, resolved to not minister with words of wisdom, but with demonstration of the Holy Spirit and power.

This bold demonstration of supernatural works shattered people’s worldview, and Paul was there to help piece it back together again, with Jesus and the Kingdom at the center. Instead of having faith in Paul’s wisdom, they had faith in the power of God.

Belief in Supernatural Things

We also need to consider how people think about supernatural things. Many who have a Fixed Mindset might reject any new information you may try to convey regarding spiritual things. They might have their beliefs firmly fixed into what they’ve been taught about angels or demons.

Some will assume such language is all metaphorical and not real, choosing to believe that everything can be explained scientifically, or will have a Gnostic or pantheistic view of these ideas. The best way to help them is to lead them to Christ.

Interestingly, new believers in the resurrected Christ are often much more apt to believe in other supernatural phenomena than seasoned believers who have been taught to dismiss the supernatural.

Ironically, seasoned believers’ resistance to the supernatural is similar to nonbelievers’ resistance to the Gospel.

5. Hostile

They reject the reality of the supernatural or will assert any spiritual ability is from the devil because God’s spiritual gifts died in the 1st Century.

4. Distorted or Unaware

While not hostile, these believers have a mistaken view of the supernatural realm or are unaware that it even exists. Their knowledge is rooted in their experience and church tradition.

3. Open to the Messenger

These people trust you, but might believe you are mistaken or deceived.

2. Open to the Message

Often believers have supernatural experiences that they (or their churches) can’t account for, so they’ve buried these experiences. If you bring up the supernatural, however, they will listen with interest.

1. Seekers

These people want answers to the supernatural and paranormal.

Conclusion

Many people do not want to be challenged regarding this reality and they don’t want to grow or learn more. But God has given you a gift and he wants you to use it. The best way to open people up to the supernatural again is through power encounters or through the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit, which you can invite through regular prayer.

Before sharing what you see, it’s important to take stock in where the other person is, before moving onto the next step: deciding what words to use.
